Bad Weather Procedures

Procedures for Tropical Cyclones and Red/Black rainstorm warnings

A message will be posted on the school website informing parents of closures and asking parents to collect their children.
The class parent of each class will be informed of the procedures in operation. Parents are asked to check the website FIRST and only contact the class parent if they have further queries. At present Classes 6M, 5T, 5F and 3H have no volunteer class parent.

BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS

EVENT SITUATION ACTION TO BE TAKEN
TYPHOON Hoisting of No.1 Signal All schools operate as normal.
Hoisting of No.3 Signal All primary and secondary schools will operate as normal, unless advised otherwise.
Hoisting of No.8 Signal or above All schools will close.
Lowering to No.3 Signal All primary and secondary schools to resume on the following day, unless road or other conditions remain adverse.
Lowering to No.1 Signal or lowering of all signals. All schools will resume with the following day.
 
RAINSTORM Raising of Amber Rainstorm Warning All schools operate as normal.
Raising of Red/Black Rainstorm Warning All schools will be closed.

Radio and Television announcements are made when schools are closed due to typhoon or red/black rainstorm warnings. If children have already set off for school, school will accept the children who arrive when school is closed. These children will be retained until it is safe for a parent or helper to collect them. If in doubt, err on the side of safety.

WHILST IN SESSION

TYPHOON Hoisting of No.1 Signal All schools operate as normal.
Hoisting of No.3 Signal All primary and secondary schools will operate as normal, unless advised otherwise.
Hoisting of No.8 Signal or above All schools will close. School buses are cancelled, and children will need to be collected from school.
OUTLYING ISLANDS – where parents have given consent children will travel on school buses to the Ferry Piers accompanied by staff living on the islands.
Lowering to No.3 Signal, No.1 Signal or cancellation of all signals All primary and secondary schools to resume on the following day, unless road or other conditions remain adverse.
 
RAINSTORM Raising of Amber Rainstorm Warning All schools operate as normal.
Raising of Red/Black Rainstorm Warning School will close as normal at the end of the school day. School buses will be cancelled if the rainstorm warning is in effect at 1:30pm. Parents will need to make arrangements to collect their children from school.
Lowering to Amber Rainstorm Warning or the lowering of all warnings. If the rainstorm warning is cancelled, or lowered to amber, before 1:30pm school buses will run as normal. If the rainstorm warning is cancelled, or lowered to amber, after 1:30pm school buses will be cancelled, and parents will need to make arrangements to collect their children from school.
