Visual Arts at Kennedy School

The Visual Arts curriculum is taught throughout the school in two main areas: Creating art and Responding to art. The learning experiences may come in the form of stand-alone skills development sessions or as trans-disciplinary activities across the Program of Inquiry. There is an additional emphasis on Visual Arts teaching throughout the ‘How We Express Ourselves’ units, where children’s learning is reflected through art exhibitions, cultural events, and class assemblies and show performances. Kennedy children are exposed to a wide variety of art forms and are encouraged to inquire further into their own interest areas as well as research into the styles and techniques of other artists. Visual Art is also promoted through lunchtime Big Draw events, art clubs, PTA Art Exhibitions, charitable projects and local competitions.
